wrappWrapp, a social gifting service backed by Greylock Partners and Atomico, is crossing the pond with the U.S. launch of its mobile gift card and retail app. Wrapp, which was available previously only in the UK, Norway, Sweden and Japan, Wrapp is actually launching today with a number of U.S. retailers including Fab, Gap, H&M, Sephora, The Wall Street Journal, Wayfair, and others. As we've reported in the past, Wrapp was co-founded by Rebtel and SendIt founder Hjalmar Winbladh, Spotify founding CTO Andreas Ehn, and lets friends give, receive and redeem digital gift cards using mobile devices, and allows friends to contribute to gifts given by mutual friends. With Wrapp, which offers iPhone, Android and web apps, you sign in via your Facebook account, and you can then tap the Celebration tab on the app, browse your friends or major events, and select the person you want to send a gift card to. All available gift card offers for that friend are automatically listed.

Leaked materials give us a sneak peek at the EVO 4G LTE marketing campaign, suggest a May 18 release

EVO 4G LTE packaging

This morning we're getting a first look at what the promotional blitz for the upcoming EVO 4G LTE will look like, courtesy of the fine folks over at Good and EVO. In addition to the packaging for Sprint's next flagship seen above, the website also got its hands on a few marketing images which tout the device's ImageSense-powered camera and built-in Beats Audio. Along with the leak comes some information about a release date, too: the next EVO will launch on May 18 with a $199.99 price tag, with preorders beginning on May 7, the website says.

Sure, leaks like this aren't set in stone, but based on the quality of material, we're going to go ahead and hope that this source knows what they're talking about. We'll continue to keep our ears to the ground; as we all patiently wait, check out the EVO 4G LTE marketing materials below.

Christina Aguilera Called "Total Bitch" By The Wanted

British boy band The Wanted performed on The Voice, and didn't hesitate to describe one of the less fun aspects of that experience in an interview.

That being Christina Aguilera.

The judge "is a total bitch," the band's Tony Parker ranted to Now FM, in an interview that has since been yanked from YouTube. He continues:

"She might not be a total bitch in real life, but to us, she was a total bitch ... she just sat there and didn't speak to us. Wouldn't even look at us."

Wanted CA

"She was quite rude," Siva Kaneswaran (second from right), added, backing up the claim by Parker (second from left). "I mean, Who does that?"

Max George (middle) chimed in, "She was a bit scary, to be honest."

When asked to compare their time on The Voice with their recent appearance on American Idol, George said, "J. Lo's hot, Christina's nothing special."

The Wanted performed on The Voice the same night Justin Bieber showed up to debut a preview of his "Boyfriend" video, and said that Aguilera was equally cold to the "Baby" crooner, making a weird face as Bieber went in for a hug.

Aguilera, for her part, denies she snubbed anyone: "Haha," she tweeted. "Can't a girl have a little Bieber Fever after getting kissed by the Biebs?"

O2 UK launches new wallet service, helps you empty yours (video)

O2 UK launches new wallet service, helps you empty yours (video)

This may not be the UK operators first attempt at dipping its fingers logo into your pockets, but O2's new mobile wallet does bring with it some de rigeur functionality. Taking a leaf out of Barclays' book, the new app lets you send "Money Messages," essentially text-driven money transfers to any phone number. There's smart-shopping features, too, such as a barcode reader for price comparisons, and daily discount deals to stop the well from going dry too soon. Interestingly, you can also apply for a physical companion card, based on Visa's pre-pay service to bring your virtual wallet into the real world. Not an O2 customer? Doesn't matter, apparently, and the app is "compatible with the majority of smartphones as well as iPads" which we guess means iOS at least, and Android, too, judging by the phones shown in the video after the break.

Google asks car makers 'Ullo John, wanna self-driving motor?'

Image

Larry Page's tenure as Googler-in-chief has heralded the death of many ambitious experiments, but even he refuses to kill the self-driving car. His project head, Anthony Levandowski, has now asked the car makers of Detroit to sign up with Mountain View for hardware testing, saying that if driverless cars are not ready by the next decade, then it's "shame on us as engineers." There's still some way to go before the tech is road-worthy, but Google is already working with insurers to work out how your car is going to handle making that call to Geico when things go wrong.

Hang Out with NFL Draft Picks on Google+ Because That's Not Awkward [Google+]

Like the horror movie villain that never dies, Google+ Hangouts is still somehow finding a way to slither into our collective mind even after we've forgotten about it. This time, the expected top two NFL picks in this year's draft, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III, will host Google+ Hangouts on their teams page. More »

Apple ? Sony: Why Apple Can Succeed Post-Jobs

steve-jobs-steve-wozniakWhile I often prefer to watch analysts hoist themselves with their own petard, it's not often that one dumps out a bit of drivel so short-sighted as George Colony at Forrester. In short, Colony believes that Apple is the next Sony - a desiccated organization that has nothing new to offer the world. While he's right about Sony, he's wrong about Apple. Analysts, to be fair, do know a thing or two about a thing or two. I'm sure he's great at plumbing financial data and picking expensive steaks. But in this Forbes piece he cites Max Weber's Theory of Social And Economic Organization, a book that I read in college but haven't had the time to peruse of late. Weber, writing in 1947, breaks organizations down into legal/bureaucratic, traditional, and charismatic. Weber probably knew from charismatic, considering his demi monde, but I doubt his version of a charismatic leader - ?he is set apart from ordinary men and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or qualities" - is applicable in any case in our modern business climate.

Incubator Lemnos Labs Is Looking For Its Next Class Of Hardware Startups

lemnos labsIt seems like everyone's worried about an incubator bubble, but seriously ? Lemnos Labs is doing something different. It's not just incubating for the latest social network or iPhone app. Instead, it's looking for startups that build hardware. At first, hardware and incubators sounds like an odd match, since the incubator boom is driven, at least in part, by the way that the Web has driven down the costs of starting a company. Hardware, on the other hand, sounds expensive and not conducive to the rapid iteration that that's now part of startup doctrine. However, co-founder Jeremy Conrad says that thanks to developments like rapid prototyping, it's becoming faster and cheaper to build a hardware startup too.
